Are you confused about Goose Down Duvets and Comforters, well I’m going to try and explain the difference as their seems to be a lot of confusion about the bedding terms.
The word “Duvet” can be a bit confusing. It seems that the term “Duvet” has loosely been used when referring to Down Filled Comforters. A “Comforter” is basically a bag the size of a bed which is filled with either down or feathers amongst other products.
Typical Comforters are plain in design so a “Duvet-Cover” is used for dressing up the comforter. So a Duvet-Cover is just like a big pillow case cover that a Down Comforter is inserted into.
The benefits of having a Down Comforter inside a Duvet Cover is the ease at which you can change the style of your bedding designs and as the Down Comforters are difficult to wash, the Duvet Cover protects it from getting dirty.
So as it stands a “Goose Down Duvet” is a “Down Comforter” And a “Duvet Cover” is a cover for the comforter.
Another option widely used, especial in warmer climates, is to only use a Duvet Cover as your decorative bed spread as it is a lighter alternative to using a comforter as they are a heavier spread.
CAN YOU WASH A COMFORTER?
When washing a comforter it is essential that you have a washing machine big enough to fit the comforter. If that’s ok, the tricky part can be drying the Goose Down Comforter. You could hang it out to dry outside in the sun, which will probably take all day or you could put it in a dryer which would take all day as well.
A trick to get them nice and fluffy again is to dry it in a dryer and place a couple of tennis balls in there with it. This helps tumble it around and fluff up the Goose Down Comforter. The other thing you need to be looking out for is that you don’t get any burn marks on the Comforter from it not tumbling enough in the dryer. So every now and them pull out the comforter and place back in.
